Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 1:07PM This meeting saw the return of the Wallaseyans’ very own Bacchus and Dionysus (Bill Rowlands and Gordon Fowler) to present our latest selection of quality and hopeful interesting wines. Judging by the absence of pint glasses full of discarded wine and the level of noise in the room on the night, I suspect we went some way towards pleasing most people.
The choice of wines was a white and a red from 3 countries and all were sourced from Majestic in Chester.
The wines
From Portugal
Planalto Douro White Reserva 2009/10
Crasto Douro Red 2008/2009
From Argentina
Esperanza Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Bellingham Mocca Java Merlot 2010
From South Africa
Porcupine Ridge Viognier Grenache Blanc 2010
Kaiken Malbec Bonarda Limited Selection 2008
All of the wines tasted were a surprise to us and were chosen from on line tasting notes, advices in store and our eye for a good wine.
The end of tasting vote for best white and red resulted in both Argentinian’s being the most popular by a large margin. This only reinforces the improvement in the quality and range of Argentinian wine over the past few years.
Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 2:42PM At the Wine Society meeting held on Monday 12/9/11 all the wines had been purchased from Bookers Wholesale. The white wines were a Santa Lucia Sauvignon from Chilli, Previata Chardonnay from Italy and a portobello Pinot Grigio also from Italy. The red wines were an Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon from California, a Santa Lucia Merlot from Chile and a Wolfblass Eaglehawk Shiraz from Australia.
The best white was the Previata from Italy and for the reds the Wolfblass won hands down.
All in all a good boozy night.
